Why God Makes Us Wait: A New Beatitude
Simply by making us wait, God increases our desire , which in turn enlarges the capacity of our soul, making it able to receive what is to be given to us.
St. Augustine
A New Beatitude: Blessed are those who wait.
Although they are hungry they are not empty.
They are full of faith, not fear.
Their hunger for God will be satisfied.
Blessed are those who wait
for the fist of winter’s frozen fingers
to favor spring’s hopeful seed
Waiting
Blessed are those who wait
for the living word to rise again
gladden barren page
Waiting
Blessed are those who wait
with upturned hands and rapt attention
their hunger for God will be satisfied
Waiting

Why We Get Discouraged : or get to the next new thing
St. Augustine quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
