… facing facts about the world right now can help us see more clearly how we want to lead our civilization forward. What kind of world are we living in, where is it headed and what part has each of us played in getting it there?… For an accurate perception of our world, we have to lift our heads a bit higher in order to see a bit further. Chris Lowney

can your neighbors briny circled eyes
bring you to your knees?
can you taste salty tide
in a solitary teardrop?
can you catch the cosmos
in an unhinged clamshell?
can you notice no thing
inside some thing?

every face and creeping thing
unmasks rapt reflection
gleeful intoxication
awe-inspiring spring
heart-starting quickening
ecstatic vision exposing
no thing
inside some thing

the world right now
sees a crooked place
wrinkled with want
distorted by division
bent on betraying beauty
but
sacramental vision unmasks
some thing inside no thing

Jim Manney’s question is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
