Notice those moments when we seem to be in contact with something or someone beyond ourselves… when these moments happen, we could say that God has not only “touched” us but has somehow “taken root” in our lived experience. Something new will grow from that union. Margaret Silf

Poised at the edge where day meets dim
I bridge being and nothing’s rim,
polish my bowl’s spacious hollow
wait for warm spring rains to follow.

It used to be a patch of blue
appeared to tear dawn’s muddy womb
illumining illusions lies
blowing cloud castle lavished skies.

Then I gave chase to vapor trails,
ancient cities, martyr’s tales
hoping that somewhere I’d find
wisdom’s grain that I’d call mine.

Not a morning passed to dusk
forgetting to betray my trust
for nothing I did ever see
could I construe as being me.

Now when heaven stalks mellow earth
I settle me in darkness berth,
bide there expectant as a maid
well fatted with her unborn babe.

Resting in silence spangled hum,
being unmoved I become
one astride creation’s door
bridging sky and ocean’s floor.

Inside flows freely to infuse
this beggar’s cup with wine’s sweet juice.
Meeting where nothing becomes I,
recall again that I must die.

Margaret Silf’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
