I desire and choose poverty over riches… insults rather than honors… to be accounted as worthless and a fool rather than to be esteemed as wise…
St. Ignatius, The Spiritual Exercises

I long to be less
so that I may be blessed
finding God in the hole

I long to lose treasure
make space for rare pleasure
finding God in the hole

I long to consent
with myself be content
finding God in the hole

I long to be hungry
from craving be free
finding God in the hole

I long for the passion
to dispatch compassion
finding God in the hole

I long for my head to haunt my heart
guide my eyes to my better part
finding God in the hole

I long to resist the urge to compete
knowing I am the one to defeat
finding God in the hole

I long to welcome my tormentor’s lies
uncover there hidden sacred surprise
finding God in the hole

I long to be exiled from status quo
to walk with the only One worthy to know
finding God in the hole*

St. Ignatius, The Spiritual Exercises s above quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
