and suffering invades me
all I am is suffering

Christian, Muslim, Green
none of the above
is all that we are
and suffering invades us
all that we are is suffering
If I and every breathing bit of creation
are celestial seeds
of an expanding galaxy
and suffering invades us
like rain bathing wheat
suffering washes our hearts
raising life from yielding ground

James Martin, SJ’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
