What is happening is the drama of God’s continuing creation of all reality… how do I respond to that deepest reality? What is my active role in God’s great work…? John Padberg, SJ

there is something something
deep down things
spirit’s ground water store
saturated stone chasm
waiting waiting
for me to dive dip
deep down things
mine abysmal core
sip iron and soul
tasting tasting
unsung spring
secret ancestor
rousing rousing
deep-seated sacredness

newborn breath
pale eyed death
murmuring pine
bitter tongued wine
companion’s bond
still mirrored pond

there is something something
deep down things
imperturbably patient
poised to transpose
any common moment
endowing all
demanding nothing
if only i steady steady
my shifty heart
linger ready
to be overshadowed
possessed
by scent of sanctify

John Padberg, SJ’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
