Find The Gold In The Opportunities At Hand : mining the moment
No mission is motivating until it is personal. And it is sustainable only when one makes the search for magis (something more) a reflexive, daily habit. A magis driven leader is not content to go throught the motions or settle for the status quo but is restlessly inclined to look for something more, something greater… they find the gold in the opportunities at hand. Chris Lowney
rather than settle my fight
for done and depleted
i mine now for something more
enlarged and exceeded
finding gold in my condition
regardless of its taste
transforming humdrum custom
into symphonic grace
brazen bold and badly
i burrow in today
excavating potential
opportunity convey
rather than whine or
decline my circumstance
i dive in dread abyss
take a miner’s chance
plume of the particular
is plumbed by eyes that see
beyond the obvious
to opportunity
no standing state of affairs
suffices to extract
the jewel of resurrection
from convention’s well-worn trac
i pray to mine for something more
born of yesterday’s midden
the gold of godly grace and grit
in every moment hidden

Jim Manney’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
