Prayer is more like floating on water than padding stridently to get somewhere… Rick Malloy, SJ

(May I suggest you read the poem aloud?)

what if prayer is not searching for God
or God’s accommodation
rather gathering my self ‘with’ God
in boundless benediction?

everything is subject to
the wee word
‘with’

so I sit ‘with’ God review today
tuning my eyes to see
in every job and friendly nod
Ultimate Reality

every night is doused in light
when I replace
searching with the wee word ‘with’
Dealer of unfathomed grace

what if prayer is gathering me
‘with’ God to be found
in all things and every person
the grist of holy ground?

everything is subject to
the wee word
‘with’

Rick Malloy’s quote is found in Sunday’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
