We actually experience God. It’s not just words and ideas. And God is our hearts’ desire — how wonderful is that? Jim Manney

Surely You have made Yourself known to me
for how could i desire
that which i do not know? … longing

You scatter salt on my tongue
more titillating than theories
savor of savvy years …tasting

You shine light through my eyes
brighten bands of bows
bathe sinister shadows … seeing

You lean into my bones
convey compassionate caress
dispatch remedial nudge … touching

You breathe snowdrop perfume
stoke fire in my breast
consecrate fragile casket … smelling

You spill sound in deaf ears
breeding songbird trills
extinct volcano whispers … hearing

sowing seeds of longing
You make Yourself known to me
kernal of zeal
zest of determination … longing
for that which i do not know … longing

Jim Manney’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
