God is merciful… like the father waiting for the son and who goes to meet him coming when he is still far off… like the Samaritan who did not pass by the unfortunate man… but helped him without asking for anything in return… Pope Francis

community rescues unharvested fruit
delivers apples to hungry
church ladies stitch cozy quilts
wrap the lost and afflicted
young man bears full weight
of grandmother’s downhill move
woman listens 100,000th time
to husband’s frenzied ball-cap story
parent corrects unruly child
tenders gentle nudge
someone waits in silence
attends lone dying stranger
neighbor mends
neighbor’s fence
judge writs lenience
freeing first offender
passerby beams smiles
spreads good willed friendliness
leader steps into the shade
amplifies novice’ skills
father forgives
philandering son
daughter consoles
disconsolate mom
public servant displays
desire to do good
God’s calling card is
mercy

Pope Francis’ quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
