God Looks To See What Good We Have Done : adopt the eyes of God
How can you imitate God as Ignatius understood (God to be) — looking to see what good others have done, and closing the eye to our imperfections?
Jim Manney,SJ
What if I am God’s housekeeper
meant to meet every guest
… with humble hospitality?
Will I receive you
who occupy the ‘other’ political camp
…with open hands?
Will I welcome you
who steward the least and lowliest place
…with open mind?
Will I love you
whose actions are at odds with mine
…with open heart?
If the gist of God is good
then I must tune my eye to recognize
goodness
in who ever arrives
at my door today

Jim Manney’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
