Maintaining Difficult Relationships : presume the best
…if we want to be of hellp we must be careful to regard them with love, to love them in deed and in truth, and to banish from our own souls any thought that might lessen our love and esteem for them… Mary Purcell
leading with no
there is no where to go
rampant competition
being complaint driven
there is no where to go
armoring position
with defensive opposition
there is no where to go
executing conviction
underwriting crucifixion
there is no where to go
ranting rabid disrespect
pokes holes in hope to resurrect
there is no where to go
relationship severed by strife
fumbles to foster new life
so
begin with yes
presume the best
the only way to see an other
not as corrupt competitor
presume the best
refuse to rudely underwrite
disrespect stoking strife
presume the best
rather than armored defense
assume a spacious moral sense
presume the best

Mary Purcell’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
