Consider Your Encounters With “Other” People: everyone belongs
Consider your encounters with people of other faiths and cultures. What have you learned from them? Jim Manney
If all that I have and call my own
is given to me by grace…**
If all that you have and call your own
is given to you by grace…
If every breathing bit of creation
is given to all by grace…
Then every Jew Muslim Sikh
Taoist Buddhist Atheist
Christian Indigenous Person and Pagan
Belongs
Belongs as a star
16,000 light years away
from our naked eye… belongs
Belongs as cloudy Venus
welcoming evening
announcing morning… belongs
Belongs as Black Hole
swallowing every blaze
of bright… belongs
What can be carved
out of creation?
set apart? disapproved?
disassociated?
Not a single tick or tie
dare be unaccounted
Every breathing bit of creation
belongs in association
with Ultimate Reality
Incomprehensible Mystery
consummate reality jealously compels
every breathing being
see beyond robes vestments faces
step beyond rituals state of affairs
wake up realize remember
wisdom written on our heart
Everyone Belongs!

Jim Manney’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
