We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted by not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed. (2 Corinthians 4.8–9)

i quit my car at the furthest spot
of undertaker’s parking lot
still saying farewell to my place
all of life’s mirrors leap to face
me, with crafty signs contrived to craze
me, cagey memes meant to haze
me, though I’ve no crest tail no wing
i fly by bare intent steering
high way pass dungeon halls
ride silent wind set no footfalls
’til evidence i am distinct
evaporates, though not extinct
sense divine urge snips azure string
lays bare broke hip of mountain spring
in mortal instant ice is born
warm blooded shroud where life was shorn
a stitch of silver thread is laid
upon time’s warp there to await
night’s blessed fingers to entrust
heaven’s fever to earth’s rare crust
melting jade ice sets blue sky streams
flowing to fill life’s seamless dreams

Breadcrumb

Waking up this morning from a disorienting dream, beginning with not being able to find my car then beset by every imaginable kind of road block and trouble, Paul’s words to the people of Corinth ring spot on. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted by not abandoned; struck down but not destroyed.
(2 Corinthians 4.8–9) Good words for every day, and perhaps especially for these days of mounting troubles in the United States.

Thank you for reading these words, created by grace and the grit of a real human being. Debra Asis

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs. My daily writing challenge for 2025 is to share the Breadcrumbs with you.
