In response to my self-prescribed treatment for breaking news distress, “For every minute of news i consume i must pray for two minutes,” someone asked me, “How do you pray?”

dawn stretches her pale green tread
sketching unstained horizon
before getting out of bed
i pray
pending beauty
may grace have her way
journal pencil coffee in hand
i pray
authored beauty
worthy words to write
to say
roaming rocky trails
treading arroyo dust
touring edgy art gallery
wandering museum hall
scouring market stall
breathing bold color
tasting thin air
i pray
blooming beauty
transfiguring all
turning toward stranger
wired to his wheelchair throne
old man’s baroque conviction
oozes supple music
i pray
ageless beauty
sun spills her pink palette
warm glow suffuses
my bag of bones at ease
i pray
nothing nothing nothing
but beauty

Breadcrumb

If only I could pray ceaselessly; feeling music, rapt in wonder, tasting beauty everywhere. But I let glory slip away until I summon my self to pray.

In response to my self-prescribed treatment for breaking news distress, “For every minute of news i consume i must pray for two minutes,” someone asked me, “How do you pray?” Praying, I open my mind and my heart to beauty.

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs. My daily writing challenge for 2025 is to share the Breadcrumbs with you.
