Jeweled Breadcrumb #10 : living both and
AND
immeasurable gap
between this and that
AND
insufferable space
place of joy and disgrace
how shall my mettle swell
harbinger of heaven?
AND
haven of hell?
O Holy One set my heart right
make me forget
bright day dim night
dismiss from mind
dismay delight
help me remember
life’s fit together
of tranquility AND tremor
Breadcrumb
Six months of searching, waiting, finding, losing and waiting some more, yesterday my realtor finally called, “Congratulations Debra. You are under contract. Looks like you will have a beautiful new home, in the nick of time.” Two hours later I received another call. My dear friend must immediately undergo extensive treatment for Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. The weightlessness of delight rubbing into the heaviness of my heart was like the moment of reaching the crest of a roller coaster ride then plunging into gravity’s grip. My heart felt like it would explode in the Janus-face of delight and distress. It took me all evening of pausing and praying to remember; joy is not complete without breathing its fragility in the same breath.
Thank you for reading these words,

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs. My daily writing challenge for 2025 is to share the Breadcrumbs with you.
