Detachment Is The Starting Point : untied
When does a desire to be liked and complimented become abnormal vanity? How much money do I need? What am I willing to do to get it? We begin to answer these difficult questions by starting from a position of freedom — detachment from any particular outcome…. Jim Manney
silk tapestry
10,000 mind-bending threads
pass by this soul
solitary fiber stretched
from ever to forever
time’s shuttle flies
passes crosswise
weaving
10,000 bridges
shot through my hollow shed
not a single pass
is tied
to me
my ancestors
tomorrow
soul solitary fiber
rises falls keeps time
with heart’s tireless treadle
free from all
that passes by

Jim Manney’s question is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
