…one prays over one’s choices, looks at one’s gifts, considers the needs, and then decides where one can do the greater good. Ronald Modras

Moths in my belly fearfully flutter
“Where can I do the greater good?”
The seemingly sincere question
a slippery sibilant of “I should”

Covetous moths, please shut up
I’m rather fond of my comfortable rut
familiar trails, unhurried pace
why perturb life’s pleasant place?

Thirsty moths insist on light
having tasted peace they seek delight
leaning to leave my comfortable rut
in order to find something more to strut

Moths in my belly bid as they should
“Where can I do the greater good?”
whatever is greater, that I must do
for the glory of God to collect and accrue

The Ronald Modras quote is found in to today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
