“…the journey is the thing. (Ignatius) called himself ‘the pilgrim.’ He traveled a long way and at every step he was alert to the still small voice pointing him to what’s next. That’s the thing to think about. ‘What’s next?’”
Jim Manney

Life.
Breathing, metabolizing, moving, responding
unpredictably
inexplicably
irreducibly compelling me to
“What’s next?”

Life.
Ticklish thread turning
the tapestry I call ‘my life’
is everywhere within me
without being
anywhere

Life.
Though like a brush of breath on my cheek
I know in every cell and space
it eludes
leaving whispers of wisdom and purpose
sweeping kisses on my heart

Life.
Refusing to be caught
cinches every bit and breath
claiming agency
eagerly inclining me to
“What’s next?”

Life.
Rising from raw primacy
of my purposive mission
turns right
turns left
or ducks decision
weaving the sacramental vest
of this pilgrim quest

Jim Manney’s quoter above is found in to today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
