Surrounded By God: But where?
God is within us and all around us, protecting, nourishing, sustaining, drawing us on. Jim Manney
Where is God? That is the question
for seeking souls and discontented
doubters and disbelievers.
Where is God for members
who stitch their lips
quit the word g-o-d?
If God is source and substance
of all that is and is not seen
then God is seeking souls and discontented
doubter and disbeliever
mummer of the word g-o-d.
If God is source and substance
of all that is and is not known
then God is sticks and stones and skies
impossible surprises
within and without demanding
I recognize the word g-o-d.
The only need God has for me
to see and know and speak
is to quench the fire
inflaming my fretful feet
Seeking, discontented, doubting, disbelief
there is no rest for me until
of g-o-d I dare to speak.

Jim Manney quote is found in to today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
