Suffering: Sip tears
Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
(Psalm 30.5)
A jar of tears swells God’s womb
weeping
with Abraham for his wife Sarah
weeping
with Rachel for her children
weeping
with Job for the poor and troubled
weeping
with Jesus for his friend
weeping
with me for the poor, the troubled the dead, the dying,
and a new day
weeping
Weeping a kiss on troubled lips
Something More I call God insists
suffering is not trespasser
breaking in to steal my life
meddling with my immaculate moments
Suffering is life
life is suffering
sipped from the jar of tears
swelling God’s sparing womb
Poem by Debra Asis
A reflection on suffering and joy is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
