So let us simply strive to come closer to God in every way possible, happy feelings or not, and stive to avoid all that has the potential to take us farther from God. For our spiritual life is all about union with God, and thus our consolation is in everything that helps make that happen. Abbot Joseph

do you choose sugar cookies
or prefer a bone to chew?
do you dream a Hallmark Christmas
of savor something new?
do you deck your halls with tinsel
stage three kings and Wenceslas?
amass mountains of presents
paying no care to cost?
will you wait for hours
when Santa comes to town?
join herald angels singing
pass spiked eggnog around?
do you welcome all ye faithful
to your merrymaking feast?
ooze your holly jolly
for the lonely and the least?
does a straw strewn manger
suffice to hold at bay
the threat of God’s appearance
promising to stay?
unbound by heights of heaven
depending on your part?
see light in every fragile face
give God your shepherd’s heart?

Abbot Joseph’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
