Jeweled Breadcrumbs #13 : refuse to be captive of culture’s machine
genesis of all that is
hid in darkness where she lives
spins thin yarn and snips sage thread
ties night’s warp on, dips day in red
bold as copper veins ablaze
deliver dust’s bewildered haze
til purple mountain silhouettes
peek through unveiled weft parapets
and what was deemed a peasant’s task
becomes supernal grace’s mask
Breadcrumb
Do your work, then step back. I read those words somewhere in the Tao Te Ching decades ago when studying Taoism and practicing Zen meditation. Today I understand them to mean; cover your ears, refuse culture’s imprisoning instruction, “Produce. Prosper. Make something of yourself.” There is nothing wrong with doing good work as long as you do not become a prisoner of it. Just do the task before you and trust, grace is moving through it.
Thank you for reading these words,
written by grace and the grit of a real human being. Debra Asis

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs. My daily writing challenge for 2025 is to share the Breadcrumbs with you.
