Jeweled Breadcrumb #8 : the gift I AM
In the grip of ignorance
and garishness of light
Unswayed by growling thunder
earth’s tremorous delight
Living within boundaries
observe what passes by
In concentrated darkness
the gleaming jewel abides
There is but one treasure
one incomparable Gift
The Greathearted I Am
Being, such as is
Giving is the vessel
in which being receives
The Giver is prime mover
I AM unity
This evanescent vigor
impels all humankind
Spin the mystic wheel of life
being as Divine
Jeweled Breadcrumb
I relocate the source of my security and safety from the outward and visible perturbations of the world to the inward and invisible presence of the mysterious I AM.
For thirty years I do not call this I AM “God” because the god of my father is a capricious executor of judgment, distantly enthroned and set to sentence every misstep. I nail this hysterical father god to the steps of the big white Presbyterian Church that stands at the center of my hometown where the aim (as I experience it) is to protect appearances and privilege the status quo. As far as my young self is concerned, Church, God and my parents have nothing meaningful for me.
Here is the gift. The infinite grace and generosity of I AM does not need me to call it by any name or for any purpose. In fact, it does not even need me to know that I AM is pursuing me. Nothing is required of me to experience the initiating touch of I AM, which today i recall as a trail of jeweled breadcrumbs persistently leading this slow-witted wanderer.
