… to insist others be reasonable, I myself will become unreasonable.

i wait watch and wonder why
do people choose that which denies
their drift and dignity?
treats them with hostility?
how do folks goodness conceive
in potentates set to deceive?
eavesdropping i detect
slap-dash passion and suspect
hoping a hero to find
reason side-steps miserable minds
but who am i to insist
reason in others must persist?
so doing i would make of me
kin of far-fetched reality

Breadcrumb
Incredulous, inconceivable, beyond belief. I wrestle with myself, with God. How can this be? How can so many people support what I experience as unreasonable? even evil behavior? Then I catch myself, remembering, to insist others be reasonable, I myself will become unreasonable. This does not give me much comfort, however, by releasing my hold on reason I make room for opposition.

Thank you for reading these words, created by grace and the grit of a real human being. Debra Asis

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs. My daily writing challenge for 2025 is to share the Breadcrumbs with you.
