When public servants leave their posts in the hands of the inordinately self-interested, what good can come of it? My hope is that the self interest and greed that drives the current administration will bear its natural consequences; when collaborators are increasingly forced toward unethical decisions, relationships among comrades and bedfellows will inevitably misfire, imploding from the inside out.

confronted by cavalier cheating, i quit East Coast academia
refusing to satisfy a State Representative’s demand that i release his son from juvenile corrections, i lost all future state contracts
holding a grad student accountable for his failing performance, i was fired by the academic dean

three losses, all unnoticed
they don’t make history
because
doing what is right is like being a gnarly old tree
no one will use you for firewood

unless you are a towering oak
planted on the Department of Justice steps
resigning your post after being directed
to subvert justice for politics

public integrity comes with a cost
position power privilege lost
but the gain is being a gnarly old tree
unusable by anyone

Breadcrumb

This morning my mind, body, spirit is torn between lauding the government officials who choose public integrity over fear and self interest and lamenting the grievous situation that prompts the Director of the Food and Drug Administration, the Commissioner of the Social Security Administration, an official of the General Services Administration, seven Federal Prosecutors as well as dozens of Department of Justice officials to resign their posts.

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs.
