Jeweled Breadcrumb #23 : mice and mothers one in calamity
ashes shroud my head
ultrafine particles ban my breath
underbelly of destruction
tastes the same
stunned mice and mothers
in the City of Angels Sudan
Democratic Republic of Congo
Gaza Israel North Carolina
Lebanon Ukraine
rummage through rubble
scavenge for crumbs
gathering dross and dreck
hapless homeless hungry
weave pop-up nests
of band-aids and dust
fire floods forced displacement
bombing
unbreathable air suffocates
undrinkable water dessicates
disaster is impartial
staggering mice and mothers
weeping for their dead
looting for their lives
Breadcrumb
Suffering, unsparing purveyor of parity.

The assignment that brings me to the writing of these words is to unapologetically tell the story of how God nudges, cajoles, drop kicks and masters me to be the real human being that I am … becoming … following God’s Jeweled Breadcrumbs. My daily writing challenge for 2025 is to share the Breadcrumbs with you.
