Discernment is rooted in the understanding that God is ever at work in our lives — inviting, directing, guiding and drawing us into the fullness of life… It is not the events themselves that are of interest, but rather the affective responses they evoke in us — feelings of joy, sorrow, peace, anxiety and all the “indefinable somethings” that arise and stir within us. Charles Jackson, SJ

what tickles my imagination
interrupts my concentration
turns the faucet of my tears
instigates dread provokes fears?

what tickles laughs at the absurd
rings bell of peace and urgent word
showering appreciation
sensing pain beyond perception?

what tickles sympathy or pleasure
raises heat for me to measure
pride horror or affection
curiosity connection?

what tickles nameless shepherd steering
lost sheep’s health and well being
impregnating sweet sensation
sacredness of incarnation

Charles Jackson, SJs’quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
