Growing In Reverence: Inside simple
Ignatius said, “Reflect how God (Ultimate Reality) dwells in creatures: in the elements giving them existence, in the plants giving them life, in the animals conferring upon them sensation in (humans) bestowing understanding. So, God dwells in me. Jim Manney
Planting, plowing, harvesting
Awe
Breathes me firm
Renders me weak
Awe
Tweaks my ears
hearing Finnish leader on NPR
refuse division’s bait
insist on unity
Awe
Peels my eyes
spying peach silk banners
blessing crag and
haggard cliffs
Awe
Teases my body
tasting heat on my back
chill on my cheek
pursuing pup up snow trail
Awe
Looses me to meet
mystery
music’s arresting allure
matron’s cadaverous eyes
Awe
Making every planet
place and person
what it is
and something more
Awe
Bending my knees
prompts me to see, sense and savor
something spare
inside simple
Jim Manney’s quote above is found in to today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by James Martin, SF, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
