God Knocks: How do you respond?
God is not altogether apart from the world we see, touch, hear, smell and taste around us. Rather (God) awaits us every instant in our action, in the work of the moment. God is at the tip of my pen, my spade, my brush, my needle.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ
Indigenous allys know Spirit blows
drumming humans
corn beans trees rocks rivers
Hindu cousins divine Spirit
behind every eye
protecting every hand
Muslim neighbors taste Allah
sweetness on their tongues
answering mecca’s call to all
Jewish friends tend tree of life
rooted in stellar Wisdom
steeped in world affairs
Buddhist brothers contemplate
wisdom written within
bow before Something More
Christian sisters bear Spirit embodied
breathe Spirit beyond
waltzing with creation
God in all
all in God
sustaining every breath
contained by none
Poem by Debra Asis
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ’s above quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
