God Has The Upper Hand: Consent
Consider a difficult situation you are facing. Pray for greater confidence that God has the upper hand. James Martin
Pompous monkey mind protests
listen here, I know what’s best
I recognize this situation
worthy of my consternation
all is not as it should be
almighty God is absentee
What good is God if she refuse
to sit my life in cozy groove
sheltered from sinister storms
unperturbed to sail along?
Elusive God cannot be caught
in the tangle of my thought
weaving an unruffled life
a placid pond untouched by strife
Though she bow not to my whim
faithful God stirs deep within
reminding me to refuse fear
swear consent to what is here
with feet planted on holy ground
my life again in God is found.
Poem by Debra Asis
The above question is found in to today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by James Martin SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
