Don’t Try To Live Someone Else’s Life: Name your desire
Ultimately our deepest desires are those that God has planted within us… You don’t need to use anyone else’s map to heaven because God has already placed in your soul all the directions you need. James Martin, SJ
What tickles your fancy?
fires desire?
taste swallow
follow the bread crumbs
see who you are
meant to be
What longing stirs?
fires desire?
touch hold
cherish the winks
see what you are
meant to do
Beneath the swirling surface
of your whorling life
rare pearl you are meant to be
proposes
writing desire on your heart
naming your stairway to heaven
Poem by Debra Asis
James Martin, SJ’s above quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by James Martin, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
