Don’t Rush It : taste and see

Feelings of consolation are gifts from God. Don’t rush it. The best bit of advice is spreading the ‘spiritual relish’ thick by sitting in that moment and relishing grace. Andy Otto

dare I taste and see the depths
mango edged cream
coating my tongue
bearing berries oats and almond bits?

dare I taste and see the depths
sweet honey pushing
ripe orchids pulling
bitter java tap tapping my tongue?

dare I taste and see the depths
swishing sour yogurt
slurping salty oysters
lingering jalapeño spice?

dare I taste and see the depths
of familiar things
resist the urge to appraise
excess or scarce value?

Wisdom says,
‘Stay your place relish grace
wetting your womb today.
Tomorrow’s plate may be parched’

Andy Otto’s quote is found in Sunday’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, SJ, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
