(St Ignatius) became convinced that experiencing God in a direct and immediate way was not a special favor reserved for a few select mystics. (His) outlook was trememdously optimistic. God will speak to anyone — no matter how wounded or broken or sinful. All of us have the ability to hear God and share in the (God’s work). Jim Manney

are you anxious
fear disaster
wasting energy to flip
politic’s chart?
are you striving
for approval
remodeling your self
to prove you’re smart?
are you clinging
to tradition
justifying your passion
and your art?
does temptation
and distraction
blind you to wisdom
written in the dark?
are you listening
can you hear Me
do you trust my Voiceless Voice
tuning your heart?
will you fast from
all your grasping
welcome emptiness
receive your Better Part?

William Barry, SJ’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
