To be holy is to live “now not with my own life but with the life of Christ who lives in me (Gal 2.20)… holiness is a way of life… Thomas Green, SJ

This poem is inspired by 5 yr old Wesley aka Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle

Putting on orange bandana of Michelangelo
teenage mutant ninja turtle has much to show
the way of fighting evil is nothing to be spurned
moxie in ninjutsu is something to be learned

With grit and guts and pluckiness he takes a stable stand
never wields a weapon in his calculated hand
sparring with three turtle brothers to achieve mastery
he develops speed strength and flexibility

Leg sweeps and leaps take downs and holds
turtleboy maintains control
of his head heart and hand
to conquer evil and demand
good and holiness prevail
ninja turtle will not fail

Having spent the weekend with Wesley, who seamlessly switches identities with each costume he puts on, I wonder why we adults stammer and stutter when attempting to put on holiness?

Thomas Green, SJ’s above quote is found in Sunday’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney, a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
