If prayer is a personal response to God’s presence, then the beginnning of prayer is to be aware of that presence… “Yes, God, you do love life into me. Yes, you love life into the things around me and into all that comes into my senses…”
Armand Nigro, SJ

Pointing to bread and wine made holy, St. Augustine directed,
“Behold what you are. Become what you eat.”

undaunted by drama
unstunned by non-sense
holiness
loves life into me
and every wobbly being

undismayed by drought
unflinching from flood
holiness
loves life into every brittle bush
and blushed rose petal

unyielding to yesterday
untouched by tomorrow
holiness
loves life into mourners tears
and dreamers longing

inconstant me
incontinent you
storm splintered bush
blemished rose petal
holiness
loves life into indomitable now
already not yet

Armand Nigro, SJ’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.

Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
