A Heart For The Suffering And The Poor : just enough
… look with your eyes and heart at these peoples who are suffering so much — some from poverty and hunger, others from oppression and repression…. then, ask yourself; What have I done to crucify them? What am I doing to end their crucifixion? What should I do so that this people might rise from the dead?

empty handed families flee
political brutality
to where?
stunned lover freezes
fumbles
fiancee MIA how?
elite athlete slips
severs spine
what now?
100s of 1,000s
malnourished children
deformed die why?
fake promises traffic
today’s slaves
child woman man?
my suffering is small
inconvenient gas pain
annoying hang nail
just enough … to melt
glacial source pierce
hardened head-waters spill
sorrow minced with mercy generate
good will
intangible asset until i tear
fair gauze from my spotless dress
press my faltering fingers
into bleeding wounds
dead child draped
empty veil crossing
mother’s weeping womb

Ignio Ellacuria, SJ’s quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
