A Church That Is Poor And For The Poor : on what do you count?
We are called to find Christ in (the poor), to lend our voice to their causes, but also to be their friends, to listen to them, to speak for them, and to embrace the mysterious wisdom that God wishes to share with us through them.
Pope Francis
Dare I be so bold I would add to the pope’s words,
“We are also called to find Christ in our own poverty.”
be still be still my hammering heart
shuffling straining striving
who wields your unyielding hammer?
winds your metronome?
plays your trademark tone?
be still be still my hammering heart
welcome your fleshly part
receive
freedom from … crusty bluster
freedom for … humility
be still be still my hammering heart
boasting blundering bluffing
why cry for what you cannot do?
freedom’s born … of reliance
on poverty’s … divine alliance
be still be still my hammering heart
welcome your immortal part
impassable
poverty dissolves conceit
restores reality complete

Pope Francis’ quote is found in today’s selection in An Ignatian Book of Days by Jim Manney is a series of daily reflections from the Spiritual Wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola. Throughout the book we hear the voices of St. Ignatius as well as many great thinkers and writers, long gone and present day, each uniquely revealing the way of finding God in all things. And that is my intention; to find God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality in whatever presents itself to me each day in 2024.
Each day I read, reflect and write on the selection, hoping to articulate the ways in which I come to know God/Divine Presence/Ultimate Reality via personal experience, impelled by the leading of my inner life.
